I'm still working and reading...

...away at some books that I need to read. Foucault, etc. I haven't blogged in a while but I'm still working and my dissertation is on my mind about 23.4 hours of every day.

Upward Bound is kicking my butt. So, I'll work on the prospectus on Saturday. (Sigh).

I swear: I. will. not. get. a. full. time. job. until. I. finish. my. dissertation!! I can't find 2 hours to read quietly--let alone work on my prospectus, which the rough draft is due July 1. I don't know how someone could think about getting a full time job and writing a dissertation. It's impossible.

You're right. It is impossible. It's the worst thing someone can do. I can't tell you how many people I've known who were ABD for life because of that job.

Donna and I keep reminding ourselves of that very thing. I've seen so many people not finish that it's terrifying. My parents and I have not invested this much money and my boys and I have not made the sacrifices we've made for me to NOT finish.

Anyone who can write a dissertation while working full-time has way more discipline than I possess--and I think I'm actually quite disciplined.

It's not just the working full time, but also the adapting to a new job that is so time-consuming. But most people find that a full-time job means three full time jobs (one teaching, one researching, and one on endless committees).
